BROWN'S HOUNDS
I WAS BORN TO LOVE HOUNDS. By age 12, I managed to end up with whatever was available locally. Most were culls but the learning curve had started. As a teen, I had my own pack of Blueticks and was treeing coons by the hundreds on our local rivers and streams. They became an amazing pack of big game dogs. Upon stumbling across a good line of treeing Walkers, I put them into the mix with my Blueticks. As the Blueticks got old and died off, I found more good dogs in the Walker line. They were readily available and before long, I was able to breed this line of dogs with great success. Over the decades, my Blueticks had gone to the back burner. The local pool of Walkers were getting so in-bred by this time that I began to look elsewhere for big game bred walkers to out-cross into…but they were harder and harder to find. The traits that I so admired in the Blueticks and found in the Walkers were getting extremely hard to reproduce. After a couple of failed-out crosses, I had a handful of dogs with no future of reproducing themselves. The fall of 2016 found my Walkers chasing a bear into a remote area of Montana. I couldn’t retrieve them. Their tracking collars pointed the way, but they wouldn't come out. Ten days later (after several searches) my wife and I scoured the area once again while fine tuning the tracking collars to locate them. We were led to the remains of our entire pack of dogs. Unbeknownst to us, wolves had been pushed into this area (do to relentless snares, poisoning and aerial gunning by Wildlife Services). Needless to say, there wasn’t much left except for the tracking collars themselves. These wolves were starving. It was clear that I was being forced into starting over again. I remembered the endurance of my old Blueticks…their tough black pads…their intelligence…and most of all…their hard-wired fire and stamina to hunt. I had always preferred a medium size hound and I knew I could find dogs like that again in the Blueticks. I had known Del Cameron from many years back. Del had made a name for himself in the Bluetick circuit of big game hunting dogs. Through many hours of research, I was able to find a few people who were hunting and raising hounds from the Southwest with Del Cameron's bloodlines. After buying a few of these dogs and pups, I was able to establish my own line of registered Blueticks once again. Almost every single one of these amazing dogs have turned out to be incredible hunting dogs. I put my acquired knowledge of line-breeding to work…keeping the most desirable traits of these magnificent dogs at the forefront. In short, I started line-breeding (not in-breeding) the best to the best without resorting to any in-breeding. Anyone who buys a pup from our kennels, will soon not only realize our efforts... but the efforts of the many before us who have done their part to make this line of Blueticks what they are today.
