Chased this bear back into his den.
BEAR COUNTRY
I found the key to happiness...
Surround yourself with animals and stay away from idiots.
START
Upon reaching this tree, I suspected this was a wet sow...but only through the tel-photo lens and getting up close was I able to determine this for sure.
Imagine shooting this bear at a bait sight - at a tree - or across a canyon - then walking up to the dead bear to realize what you have done. Not only have you killed a female, but you have killed all of her cubs as well. In this case...she had three.
These cubs were born last January in the den and weigh about 15 pounds. They would die without her. (You can actually see this sow's wet nipples).
You will never see cubs this size with the sow until they are much older. This is why there are so many orphan cubs. I was just lucky enough to find the three of them some distance away from her in a place where she had hustled them up another tree.

BELOW
This 8 to 10 year old MATURE TOM (along with ANY female lion) are NOT the cats to kill. These old toms know the ropes and are vital to keeping the continuum of the species going. They are the glue that holds it together. Without these mature animals staying alive, you only create dysfunction.
It took the hounds half a day of cold-trailing and 8 miles in deep snow to tree this big tom. The track was 1 -1/2 days old. I snow-shoed the whole way up...took some pictures... leashed the dogs up...then snow-shoed back.
Magnificent animals such as these...should never be stomped on...only revered.
